Satterwhite crews harvest dead-standing timber, manufacture house logs, market the homes, and construct the shells – ensuring quality control second to none. The Satterwhite team is committed to the company and to its customers. Manufacturing & Quality of Product Satterwhite logs are primarily cut from dead-standing Engelmann spruce and Lodgepole pine. The trees naturally and slowly dry as they become stable, energy efficient, and ready to be milled into house logs. After harvesting, the logs are cut into cants, moisture tested, and milled or planed into a variety of log profiles. Each log is inspected by a certified grader using Timber Products Inspection guidelines, a third-party agency recognized by the Log Homes Council. All Satterwhite logs have low moisture content of 15% or below, making them a stable building material. Conservation Efforts Satterwhite Log Homes is proud of its conservation efforts, and works hand-in-hand with the U.S. Forest Service. Every part of the harvested tree is utilized. By-products are sold for low cost firewood and fencing materials. Sawdust and shavings become livestock and poultry bedding and gardening mulch. Other by-products recycle into composting programs, control erosion, and serve as ground cover for playgrounds and plant nurseries.
